Why American Muslim families send these gifts

Most of the families we coordinate for from the US fall into one of three groups. The first are families with a parent or relative going for Hajj from a US city like New York, Houston, Detroit, Los Angeles, or Chicago. They want to send a wheelchair, prayer mat, or water distribution gift to make the journey easier on a parent who's getting older. The second are families honoring a parent who has passed away with Sadaqah Jariyah — a Mushaf placed inside Masjid al-Haram, an Umrah Badal performed in their name, or ongoing water distribution outside the Haram. The third are families giving during Ramadan and Eid-ul-Adha, when sending Iftar meals or arranging Qurbani in Makkah carries special weight.

Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "When a person dies, all his deeds end except three: a Sadaqah Jariyah, knowledge from which others benefit, and a righteous child who supplicates for him" (Sahih Muslim 1631, Abu Hurayrah). For many American Muslim families, sending a gift on behalf of a parent at the Haramain is exactly this kind of continuing reward.

The gifts most often sent from the United States

  • Wheelchair gift for an elderly parent on Hajj or Umrah, placed in the free wheelchair section near Masjid al-Haram
  • Mushaf gift handed to a worshipper inside Masjid al-Haram, often on behalf of a deceased parent
  • Water distribution to pilgrims outside the Haram in peak heat — popular year-round and during Hajj season
  • Umrah Badal performed in Makkah on behalf of a parent unable to travel or who has passed away
  • Qurbani in Makkah for Eid-ul-Adha, Aqeeqa, Dam, Fidyah, or Sadaqah
  • Iftar meals for fasting worshippers in Ramadan

How it works from the United States

You order from anywhere in the US at any time of day. Our team in Makkah and Madinah handles the rest. There's no time-zone friction because the order sits in our system until it's processed locally. For most gifts the window is a few days to two weeks depending on category and season. Umrah Badal usually takes a few weeks. Qurbani during Eid happens on the assigned Eid days. We send written confirmation by email after each gift is distributed, and for Umrah Badal and Qurbani we share a short video or photo where it's practical.

Common questions from US buyers

When does the order actually get processed in Makkah?
Within a few business days of order placement for most gifts. The time zone difference doesn't slow anything down because our team coordinates on the ground locally.

What if I'm sending this for a parent who lives in another country?
That's fine. You can order from the US for a parent in any country. The gift is distributed at the Haramain, not shipped to the parent. Add their name in the order notes as the intention.

Are donations tax-deductible?
No. We are not a registered charity. We're a coordinated gifting service operated by Gifts For Haramain LLC. Read our Trust and Process page for the full explanation.

What about Hajj season from the US?
Order at least 2-3 weeks before your family member arrives in Makkah so the gift can be coordinated in time. Earlier is better during Hajj peak.
